I'm usually sceptical of describing things as momentous, or big, or important - but for me the last month has been. Having resolved some personal stuff, I considered my career. The result is that I've resigned from my job, and next March I going to travel for a number, to be determined, of months. When I get back I'll be looking for some interesting assignments in the media space.
By the time I leave next year I'll have been in London's W12 for 6.5 years. In my time I've been involved in building satellite trucks, suggested swapping two pixels around on a logo, built systems to manage website content and worked on the highest profile BBC service ever to be decommissioned. Recently I looked after some interactive TV services, helped deploy & support IPTV/VOD services and was part of the team de-coupling everything from our former mothership of Auntie. I've had many great experiences - but it's now time to move on.
Next February I'll finish at Red Bee, and in March I'll begin my round the world adventure. That doesn't feel too strong a word for someone whose furthest trip so far is a 4 days city-break in Berlin.
My to-do list to make this happen is growing by the day. I'm considering starting a book on how many guidebooks are bought (1 so far), travel tips that will be accrued and changes made to the plan... Stepping into the unknown is wonderfully addictive, once you get started.
I'm hoping to make some new friends and contacts on my travels, and see first-hand the trends in media consumption around the world. If you fancy chatting about the future (or not) of television/media/etc, look me up and say hi.
